House Democrats are demanding an independent investigation into President Donald Trump's past connections to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. A new congressional staff report details allegations of sexual misconduct and accuses the Justice Department of withholding evidence that could implicate individuals associated with Epstein's criminal activities. The White House rejects the accusations, while the allegations involving Trump remain unproven.
Congressional Report Renews Scrutiny of Trump
Democratic members of the House Judiciary Committee have called for the appointment of an independent special counsel to investigate President Donald Trump's connections to Jeffrey Epstein. Their demand follows the release of a 53-page report on October 26, 2026, by committee staff working under Representative Jamie Raskin, the panel's ranking Democrat. The report examines allegations involving eleven women and draws on witness accounts, FBI records, congressional interviews and documents released under the Epstein Files Transparency Act. Its authors argue that the available information warrants further investigation into possible criminal conduct involving Trump and other individuals associated with Epstein. The document represents the findings of Democratic committee staff rather than a bipartisan congressional conclusion or a judicial determination.
Five Women Accuse Trump of Sexual Misconduct
According to the report, five women have directly accused Trump of rape or sexual assault in circumstances involving Epstein or his immediate social circle. Additional accounts describe encounters in which Epstein or his longtime associate Ghislaine Maxwell allegedly attempted to introduce women to Trump under circumstances that investigators consider suspicious. Among the allegations examined is an account from Beatrice Keul, a former Swiss beauty pageant contestant who told congressional staff that Trump raped her at New York's Plaza Hotel in November 1993. Keul had previously spoken publicly about alleged sexual misconduct involving Trump, but the committee report includes additional details concerning her account. The allegation has not been independently established in court, and the White House denies the accusations. The report also revisits statements by other women who previously alleged inappropriate or nonconsensual sexual contact involving Trump. Several of these accounts were already publicly known, although Democratic investigators argue that examining them together reveals relationships and patterns that deserve additional scrutiny.
Justice Department Faces Allegations of Concealing Evidence
The report extends beyond Trump's personal connections to Epstein and raises questions about the Justice Department's handling of investigative records. Democratic lawmakers allege that federal authorities withheld relevant information and discontinued investigative efforts concerning possible participants in Epstein's sexual exploitation network. Particular attention is directed toward Attorney General Todd Blanche, who previously represented Trump as a personal attorney. According to the report, Blanche, then serving as deputy attorney general, repeatedly prevented Maxwell from discussing a particular survivor during a July 2025 prison interview. Democratic investigators argue that his conduct raises questions about potential interference with an investigation. The report does not establish that Blanche committed a criminal offense or that the Justice Department deliberately concealed evidence to protect Trump. Those claims remain allegations that would require independent examination.
White House Rejects the Report
The White House has categorically denied the accusations. Spokeswoman Lauren Bis described the report as a politically motivated attack and stated that none of the allegations were true. The administration maintains that Trump ended his relationship with Epstein and was not involved in his crimes. Trump and Epstein were socially acquainted for years, and their association has been documented through photographs, public appearances and historical records. However, the existence of a personal relationship does not demonstrate participation in criminal activity. Trump has not been criminally charged in connection with Epstein's offenses. Epstein died in federal custody in August 2019 while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges involving minors. Maxwell was convicted in 2021 for her role in facilitating the sexual exploitation of underage girls and is serving a 20-year prison sentence.
Political Stakes Rise Ahead of Midterm Elections
The report was released eight days before the November 3 congressional midterm elections, giving the controversy additional political significance. Democrats have increasingly questioned the Trump administration's handling of the Epstein files and are demanding greater transparency about the evidence collected by federal investigators. A Democratic majority in the House of Representatives could create opportunities for additional congressional hearings, document requests and subpoenas. However, appointing a federal special counsel would require action within the Justice Department, and the congressional demand alone does not initiate a criminal investigation.
Independent Investigation Remains an Open Question
The release of the report establishes a significant new congressional demand for scrutiny of Trump's relationship with Epstein and the federal government's handling of the case. It does not, however, prove the allegations of sexual misconduct or establish that Justice Department officials engaged in a deliberate cover-up. Whether an independent investigation will follow remains uncertain. The central issue is whether the available testimony and records can substantiate allegations of criminal wrongdoing or reveal failures in the federal investigation. Until those questions are examined through an independent legal process, the distinction between documented associations, disputed accusations and established criminal conduct remains essential.
Democrats Demand Investigation Into Trump's Epstein Ties. House Democrats call for a special counsel to investigate Donald Trump's ties to Jeffrey Epstein as a new report raises serious allegations.
